Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar has thanked Ramayan show creator Ramanand Sagar for allowing re-telecast of the epic serial during lockdown. In a letter written in Hindi to the filmmaker, the Minister wrote that he wanted to telecast the show during lockdown and thanked Ramanand Sagar’s family for providing the epic serial.

Recently, Ramayan broke a world record as it became the most-watched show in the world. According to data issued by BARC India, the serial received 77 million impressions on April 16.

The Minister wrote, “The serial was first telecast 40 years ago and people loved it. But back then, there were not many television sets and people used to go to other people’s houses to watch the show.”

He added, “But now, the scenario has changed. Around 18 crore television sets are in use in India. The new generation, who had not watched Ramayan earlier, is also watching it now. And those who had watched it before, are remembering good old memories.”

The show recently broke all records and became the most watched show in the world. Talking about this feat, Prakash Javadekar wrote, “Ramayan has become the most popular show in this category. In India, it became the most popular show in all categories. On April 16, Ramayan has become the most watched show in the world. 7 crore and 70 lakh people have watched and loved it.”

The Minister also thanked all the actors, writer, producer and every person associated with the show on behalf on Doordarshan.

Since March 28, when its rerun began on DD National, Ramayan continued to be the most-watched show in India, week after week. The show was back on Doordarshan to keep the viewers hooked to television so that they could stay at home.

Ramayan concluded on April 18 and was replaced with Uttar Ramayan, which features the story of Ram and Sita’s twins Luv and Kush.
